Chapter 124: First Arrival
Magic Forest.
Also known as the Land Cursed by the Gods.
In a distant era, a war between deities erupted here, and even unknown beings fell.
Ultimately, this created this special region.
To the south, crossing the Cursed Jungle that stretches for thousands of miles, is the Eastern Kingdom Continent; to the north, crossing the Azure Sea, is the legendary Kalim Continent.
But, ironically,
the Cursed Jungle is a forbidden zone for living beings, and the Azure Sea is even more vast and boundless, making it almost impossible to cross either.
Thus, the Magic Forest became an exclave.
Here, there are decaying living beings, immortal monsters, and ordinary people struggling to survive.
And even more, there are wizards pursuing truth and exploring mysteries.
The special geographical environment and the chaotic rules of survival have led to the Magic Forest remaining in a state of constant disorder.
For countless years, there has never been true unification here.
Even the wizard organizations of the Kalim Continent can only establish a small stronghold here.
The Six Rings Tower.
Is one of them.
On a mountaintop, inside a wizard tower.
Daniel, wearing a wizard’s robe, held a staff in his hand and gently waved it, activating the defenses within the wizard tower.
Here, with the aid of the wizard tower, he, as a First-Circle Wizard, can unleash the power of a high-level Second-Circle Wizard.
“The academy is paying less and less attention to the Magic Forest.”
Wizard Bella stood to the side, looking at the dilapidated Star Gate that was gradually reacting, shaking her head with a helpless expression:
“Every ten years, a wizard should be sent to replace the previous one. It was already bad enough that the last ones to come were all wizard apprentices, but this time they simply transferred someone from another place. It’s really… getting more and more perfunctory.”
Her voice carried obvious dissatisfaction.
Back then, she was forcibly sent here, and she couldn’t even refuse, but others were able to avoid coming.
Just because she had no backing in the Six Rings Tower!
“It’s better to have someone come than no one at all.” Daniel smiled faintly:
“You also know that the Magic Forest is far less convenient than the Kalim Continent for cultivation or communication.”
“The wizards of the academy have put in a lot of effort to avoid being assigned here.”
“Hmph!” Bella snorted coldly.
That was what made her unhappy, she had also sought many connections, but none of them worked.
“Alright.” Archie’s voice was hoarse:
“The Star Gate has already opened, and the people on the other side could arrive at any moment. Don’t let the newcomers see us making a fool of ourselves.”
Bella pouted at his words.
In a little over a year, Archie’s thirty-year rotation period would be completed, and he could return to the academy tower.
Of course, he had no objections.
“Buzz…”
The Star Gate’s light grew brighter.
The three wizards all took a step back, each unleashing defensive magic, and also locking their offensive magic onto the Star Gate.
The probability of errors occurring during teleportation was very low, but it was not impossible for Star Realm creatures to invade.
Even if it was a one in ten thousand chance, they had to be prepared.
The light gradually dissipated, and a dozen wizards and wizard apprentices, carrying large bags and small packages, appeared in the field.
Most of them looked bewildered, clearly not yet adapted to the shock brought about by traversing space.
“Barbarians!”
Bella whispered.
Although there was one Formal Wizard among the group in front of her.
Their clothing, their mannerisms, and their actions all revealed a rustic quality.
“Miss Marianne!”
Daniel took the lead in removing the magic from his body, a smile appearing on his face as he stepped forward:
“Welcome!”
“Welcome to the Magic Forest!”
“I forgot to introduce myself!”
He straightened up, patted his forehead with his left hand, and said:
“My name is Daniel, this is Wizard Archie, and this is Wizard Bella, all members of the Six Rings Tower.”
“Greetings, the three of you.” Marianne’s eyes held the wariness of a first encounter with strangers as she bowed to the three of them:
“I am Marianne from the Eastern Kingdom Continent, and these are the juniors who came with me.”
“Nancy, come and meet the three seniors.”
Nancy was the only formal disciple that Marianne had brought, a high-level wizard apprentice with a second-level talent.
A high-level wizard apprentice was nothing in the eyes of the three Formal Wizards, but a second-level talent was different.
This meant that,
as long as there were sufficient resources, Nancy’s chances of advancing to a Formal Wizard were as high as 70%.
Seventy percent was already a very high probability.
In reality.
The chances of many wizard apprentices advancing were only 30% to 40%, and whether they could advance largely depended on luck.
And among the wizard apprentices who had come to the Magic Forest this time, Nancy was not the only one with a second-level wizard talent.
There was also Omar!
Not only did they both have the chance to advance to Formal Wizards, but they might even become Second-Circle Wizards.
“Second-level wizard talent!” Daniel’s tone was filled with emotion:
“It seems that it won’t be long before we have two more Formal Wizards here.”
“That’s right.” Wizard Archie nodded:
“Although the Eastern Kingdom Continent is not suitable for wizards to cultivate, it is also more likely to produce outstanding talents.”
Even Bella, who had initially looked down on everyone, now had a solemn expression.
“No matter how good the talent is, it still depends on how they develop in the future.”
Marianne shook her head:
“Besides…”
“They are already the best of the wizard apprentices from several kingdoms, and in terms of proportion, the actual number is very low.”
That was true.
In the Kalim Continent and the Magic Forest, because there were many wizards, there were also more people with wizard talent among their offspring.
But in the Eastern Kingdom Continent, a city with hundreds of thousands of people might not produce even one person with wizard talent in a year.
The proportion was pitifully small.
“Haha…” Daniel laughed heartily:
“We’ll talk about the future later!”
“I’ve already had a banquet prepared to welcome you all. Today, let’s eat well and rest well, and we’ll talk about the arrangements for the future tomorrow.”
The banquet was in the hall on the first floor of the wizard tower.
One by one, ghost-like magical servants floated around the hall, bringing dishes and soups.
The wizard apprentices, who had never seen such a scene before, all looked surprised.
They were like ordinary people who had just come into contact with the wizarding world, and everything before their eyes could elicit exclamations.
The surprise,
was far more than just the magical servants.
“This chandelier can change different colors, it’s actually a magic item?”
“How extravagant!”
“They actually used magic materials that can restore mental power to cook the food, this…this is too exaggerated!”
“It’s the meat of a magical creature…”
“Oh my god!”
“…”
The three Formal Wizards smiled as they watched the wizard apprentices with astonished expressions, each with their own thoughts.
“Omar.”
At some point, Wizard Bella came to Omar’s side and asked in a low voice:
“I heard that you don’t have a formal mentor yet? Are you interested in learning magic from me?”
Huh?
Omar was stunned and subconsciously looked at Marianne.
She had a mentor when she was in the Black Swamp, but her mentor was just an ordinary Intermediate Wizard Apprentice.
This time, she had come to the Magic Forest with the intention of following Marianne to learn.
But…
Wizard Bella also seemed good.
Thinking this, she lowered her head and said:
“Before coming here, I already agreed to learn from Senior Marianne.”
It was learning,
not taking her as a disciple!
And not a formal master-disciple relationship.
Bella, of course, understood the meaning of her words. Omar was willing, but she was worried that Marianne would not agree.
“It’s alright.”
Wizard Bella smiled and said:
“I’ll handle this matter.”
“Now!”
“Let’s re-evaluate your wizard talent first.”
The wizard talent assessment in the Eastern Kingdom Continent was very rudimentary, still using the five-grade system from thousands of years ago.
But in the Kalim Continent, it had long been subdivided into fifteen grades.
Soon.
A large crystal ball was placed in the center of the hall, and the wizard apprentices lined up to have their talent assessed in turn.
“Nancy, Second-Grade, Lower-Quality Wizard Talent!”
“Not bad.”
Several Formal Wizards nodded lightly.
The second grade was already confirmed, they were just subdividing it into upper, middle, and lower grades. The chances of it being lower-grade were higher.
However, they were hoping for a middle or even upper grade, as such talents would be more eye-catching.
Nancy was an ordinary-looking girl with a few freckles on her face. Seeing this, her eyes dimmed slightly, and then she moved aside.
“Omar, Second-Grade, Middle-Quality!”
“Good!”
Before anyone else could speak, Bella couldn’t help but clap excitedly. Marianne, on the other hand, frowned slightly.
She had lost out!
If she had known, she should have taken Omar as a disciple, or asked Bella for more benefits before letting her have her.
A second-grade, middle-quality talent, it was almost certain that she would become a Formal Wizard.
“Gavin, Third-Grade, Middle-Quality!”
“Hodgson, Third-Grade, Lower-Quality!”
“…”
It was Karl’s turn to stand before the magic ball. He looked somewhat excited, took a deep breath to calm the ripples in his heart, and then placed his hand on the magic ball.
“Karl, Fourth-Grade, Upper-Quality!”
Upper-Quality?
Karl smiled.
A fourth-grade wizard talent was not considered good, but the fact that it was upper-quality meant he was among the best of the worst.
“Karl.”
At this time, Wizard Archie, who was responsible for assessing everyone’s talent, spoke:
“I heard that you know how to brew potions?”
“Yes.”
Karl’s expression turned solemn, and he bowed respectfully:
“My mentor, Adolf, is an excellent alchemist, and I have also learned some knowledge of potion-making.”
“Hmm.” Archie nodded:
“Would you like to come and help out at my shop? Three magic stones a month, with an extra bonus at the end of the year.”
“Three magic stones?” Karl’s eyes lit up:
“Really?”
Three magic stones a month meant thirty-six a year, and with the bonus, it would be at least forty.
Forty!
In the Black Swamp, many Intermediate Wizard Apprentices might not have seen so many magic stones in their entire lives.
The pay here was so high?
Not only Karl, but the others who had come with him from the Black Swamp also held their breath, their eyes burning with passion.
“Of course.” Wizard Archie smiled faintly:
“If you do well, it can be increased.”
“I agree!” Karl nodded hurriedly, and repeated:
“I agree!”
“Good.” Archie smiled:
“Once you are familiar with the environment here, you can come to work. Someone will teach you then.”
***
Saying this, he waved his hand, signaling him to make way for the person behind him.
Karl turned around and retreated into the crowd, only then realizing that his back was covered in a cold sweat, and his muscles were aching from being tense.
Just now,
for a moment, he thought his disguise had been seen through by the other party.
On the surface, his mental fluctuations were only at the level of an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice, but in reality, he was already a High-Level Wizard Apprentice.
At most.
Karl had only stepped into the world of wizards for six or seven years.
In such a short time, and in the resource-scarce Eastern Kingdom Continent, with a wizard talent that was not good.
Yet he was able to become a High-Level Wizard Apprentice, anyone who saw him would become suspicious.
Fortunately, the potion he had concocted was fine, masking his mental fluctuations to the level of an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice.
Even the Formal Wizards had not been able to detect anything unusual.
…………
Night.
Karl walked out of the wizard tower and came to the hillside, facing the cold wind.
A slender figure had already taken a position. The cold wind blew up her wizard’s robe, outlining her graceful curves.
“Do you think…”
Facing the distance, Omar’s voice was soft:
“Will we ever go back?”
“Of course.” Karl nodded:
“As long as you want to.”
Unlike him, Omar still had close relatives in the Kingdom of Gando, and a mentor she relied on in the Black Swamp.
Her longing for her hometown was deeper.
“When I become a Formal Wizard.”
Omar’s expression was solemn:
“I will definitely find a chance to go back.”
“With your talent, it probably won’t take long.” Karl smiled and gestured forward:
“Shall we take a walk together?”
“Okay.”
Omar nodded.
The two of them were not very familiar with each other in the Black Swamp. They were just members of the Starry Secret Society, so they inevitably met frequently.
Having come here, surrounded by strangers, their relationship naturally became closer.
“The Six Rings Tower’s main task here is to mine magic plants, and each wizard is responsible for a forest.”
Omar said:
“The felling of magic plants is done by ordinary people. Our main task is to refine Wood Essence, which is a Wood-type magic material.”
“According to the people here, if you work hard, you can earn two or three magic stones a month, or even more.”
“You don’t need to worry about work.” Karl said:
“Wizard Bella will make arrangements. It would be a shameful waste to have someone with a second-level wizard talent do manual labor.”
“Perhaps they will have you manage the shop in the magic market?”
“Maybe.” Omar smiled:
“But none of that is as good as you. You just arrived here and already have a job, and… it’s also very suitable.”
“Luck.” Karl also smiled:
“The Six Rings Tower must be short of people. Whether it’s refining Wood Essence or running the business, they don’t have enough manpower.”
“Huh?”
His eyes flashed, and he stopped walking:
“Someone’s there!”
“Hmm?” Omar turned her head, a hint of realization in her eyes:
“It’s Nancy and Hodgson. They really don’t want to waste any time. This is the wizard tower, after all.”
Saying this, she shook her head lightly.
In the bushes not far away, two figures were pressed together, rolling back and forth on the ground, emitting moans filled with desire.
There were also clothes scattered nearby.
It was clearly a couple who couldn’t bear the loneliness.
Just as Omar said, this was a wizard’s tower, and their every move could be seen clearly by others. They were still able to do this, which was admirable.
“Nancy is spoiling Hodgson too much.”
The sounds from the bushes grew louder, and Omar’s face showed obvious dissatisfaction:
“She shouldn’t have brought him here.”
“I really don’t understand what Nancy sees in him. His talent is not good, his personality is not good either, and he’s just decent-looking.”
Hodgson was not originally qualified to come to the Magic Forest. It was only because Nancy had pleaded with Marianne that he was able to come along.
“When it comes to feelings, no one can reason with anyone.”
Karl withdrew his gaze and shook his head lightly:
“But Hodgson is quite famous for his handsomeness. There were many female wizard apprentices who pursued him back then.”
“Hmph!” Omar snorted coldly:
“A fake face made using bloodline magic.”
“It was just a slight touch-up. His foundation was already good.” Karl turned around:
“Let’s go back!”
It was impossible to continue chatting in this situation.
As the two of them left, the moans from the bushes continued, and the man and woman writhed like maggots.

*
Leipzig Market.
One of the most famous markets in the Magic Forest.
Wizard Archie’s potion shop was located near the core of this market.
The shop faced the street and had three storefronts, with a courtyard of nearly three hundred square meters behind it.
On the shelves of the storefront, various potions were displayed. Below each potion was a tag with the corresponding description and price.
“We mainly sell potions that assist wizard apprentices in their cultivation, and various healing potions.”
Charlie was Wizard Archie’s disciple, and also an alchemist. He was leading Karl to familiarize himself with the shop.
“Occasionally, we also sell potions that Formal Wizards can use, but because the quantity is limited, they are basically not put up for sale.”
Karl nodded.
The potions used by Formal Wizards must have been made by Wizard Archie himself.
The potions he made were most likely pre-ordered by someone and were taken away privately before they could be put on display.
“Restoration Potion!”
Charlie picked up a white bottle and introduced it:
“It can quickly restore mental power. Three bottles for one magic stone. It is one of the essential potions for wizard apprentices in the wild.”
“Healing Potion!”
He picked up a red bottle.
“It can restore Life Force and treat low-intensity injuries. It is an essential potion for knights in the wild.”
“Five bottles for one magic stone!”
“This is the Brilliant Potion.”
He picked up a silver bottle, his voice slightly serious:
“A potion that can assist wizard apprentices in their cultivation. One bottle for one magic stone. It can be considered our shop’s signature product.”
Saying this, he introduced the other potions one by one.
“Senior Brother Charlie.”
Karl frowned slightly and asked:
“There are dozens of potions here. Are they all brewed by us?”
“Of course not.”
Charlie chuckled and shook his head:
“In reality, apart from the Brilliant Potion, the other potions are not brewed by us. Instead, we buy them from other alchemists and then sell them in the shop, earning the profit difference.”
“So…”
“Little Brother Karl, your task, apart from managing the shop and selling potions, is to check if the potions we buy meet the requirements.”
“How is your Analysis Technique?”
“This…” Karl hesitated for a moment. Because he lacked a comparison, he was not sure of his own level, so he could only say:
“It should be alright.”
“Alright isn’t good enough.” Charlie shook his head:
“You need to be very good. I will be on duty as usual during this period, and you will observe carefully by my side.”
“Although the alchemists we cooperate with are long-term partners, there will inevitably be unqualified potions.”
“Yes.”
Karl nodded.
“Sigh!”
Coming to the door, he looked back at the shop. Charlie’s eyes revealed a complex emotion:
“Thirty years ago, I followed my mentor here, and gradually built this potion shop from scratch.”
“I’m really a bit reluctant to leave…”
Karl turned his head to look at him.
Charlie was no longer young, with a full head of white hair and a face full of wrinkles. He looked even older than Wizard Archie.
“But I don’t regret it.”
Smiling at Karl, Charlie said:
“Back then, I was just an insignificant disciple by my mentor’s side. I hadn’t become an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice even at thirty years old, let alone have any prospects.”
“When the assignment came down, among my mentor’s many disciples, only I was willing to give up everything and follow him here. It was also because of this that I gained my mentor’s favor, and that’s how I became who I am today.”
“In a little over a year, we will return to the Kalim Continent. I wonder how the people from back then are doing now?”
He was now not only a High-Level Alchemist, but also a High-Level Wizard Apprentice.
Although he was already quite old, at sixty years old, he might still have a chance to become a Formal Wizard.
Using thirty years to go to an unfamiliar place to gamble on a future.
This determination was admirable.
“Senior Brother Charlie!”
Just then, a hearty voice rang out.
Looking in the direction of the voice, they saw a middle-aged man dressed in merchant attire walking over.
He wore a leather merchant’s hat with a slightly upturned brim, which was both practical and fashionable. Unlike the other wizard apprentices, he held a scepter carved from what looked like ivory in his hand. His fine, long robe swayed slightly as he walked, making him appear even more noble.
“Simon!”
Charlie nodded to the newcomer and then pointed to Karl:
“Let me introduce you. This is a wizard apprentice sent by the Six Rings Tower, his name is Karl.”
“This is Simon. He helps me and my mentor manage the business.”
“Haha…” Simon laughed heartily, stepped forward, and grabbed Karl’s arm:
“A wizard apprentice from the Six Rings Tower, that’s truly enviable. I’m a local of the Magic Forest. If you need anything, just call me anytime.”
“Simon is mainly responsible for maintaining relationships with the shop’s suppliers.” Charlie introduced:
“We have more than twenty alchemists under contract, most of whom were found by Simon.”
“He is a very capable young man.”
Young?
Probably young in your eyes.
Karl smiled and greeted the other party.
Formal Wizard Archie, High-Level Wizard Apprentice Charlie, and the merchant Simon before him.
These were the pillars that kept the shop running.
There were also some workers, including a Grand Knight and two Peak Knight guards.
And two sales personnel.
Now,
there was also Karl.
“My treat.”
Simon patted his chest and said:
“To celebrate Karl’s arrival, we’ll go to the Bordeaux Restaurant today.”
“Oh!” Charlie’s eyes flickered:
“You’re really willing to spend.”
Seeing that Karl was somewhat confused, he explained:
“The owner of this Leipzig Market is the Capet Family. This family has two Second-Circle Wizards, and the Bordeaux Restaurant is a property of the Capet Family, famous for cooking all kinds of exquisite dishes.”
“Of course, the cost is also very high. The most ordinary meal costs ten or eight magic stones.”
“This…” Karl shook his head repeatedly:
“It’s too expensive, not worth it.”
“Indeed.” Charlie nodded:
“There’s no need to be so wasteful.”
“Let’s go!”
He waved his hand:
“I’ll show you the backyard. If nothing goes wrong, this will be your residence in the future.”
Simon did not insist, smiling as he watched the two of them walk towards the backyard, a flash of viciousness in his eyes.
Damn it!
I’ve put so much effort into this shop. You’re leaving, but you’re not leaving anything for me, and you’re going to let an outsider benefit.
Karl?
Scum!
He gritted his teeth. When he saw someone walking over, he immediately put on a smile and followed the two of them.
Please collect!
