Chapter 21: Spell Model
“Chief Dana.”
Karl remained unmoved:
“You’re an adult now. When a person does something wrong, they have to pay the price. Don’t tell me you don’t even understand this principle?”
“Wrong?” Dana raised her glass, her eyes bewildered:
“Was what I did wrong?”
“Investigating the Vampire Corpse Case, eradicating the Fire Thieves, everything I did was in line with the Knight’s Code and the laws of the kingdom.”
As a knight, she should protect the weak; as the Patrol Chief, she should uphold justice. She didn’t feel that she had done anything wrong.
Could it be that doing nothing was the right thing to do?
“Right and wrong depend on your perspective.”
Karl shrugged:
“Maybe you think you’re not wrong, but the people who died because of you, their families, don’t think so.”
“And you’re working so hard on this case, not just because of the Knight’s Code, right?”
“Heh…” Dana shook her head with a wry smile, raised her head, and drank all the wine in one gulp. Then she looked at Karl with blurred eyes:
“You… you’re different now.”
The Karl of the past was careless and rough, his personality as crude as his voice. Now he had become refined, even his speech was well-organized.
“People change.”
Karl said calmly:
“There’s nothing strange about that.”
“You’re right!” Dana nodded:
“Cheers.”
The two clinked their glasses and drank them all in one go.
“Hiccup…”
The alcohol took effect, Dana’s face flushed, her eyes became a little dull, and she looked at the wine giggling foolishly.
It seemed her alcohol tolerance was quite low.
“You’re right.”
Dana burped and grinned:
“I have my own purpose in investigating the case, not just because of the Knight’s Code. Do you know about the Life Potion?”
“Life Potion?” Karl raised his eyebrows:
“The potion that can help Knight Squires become Knights?”
As a Knight Squire, he certainly knew about the Life Potion, and there was also the Life Fruit.
They were all ‘treasures’ that could increase the chances of promotion.
“Yes.” Dana nodded:
“I’m the Patrol Chief. If I make a contribution, I can apply to the City Lord to purchase a Life Potion.”
“Hmm…” Karl was a little puzzled:
“You’re Viscount Saxon’s eldest daughter. With the strength of the Yeager family, can’t you get a Life Potion?”
“I had one before.” Dana looked up:
“But I was young and ignorant then, and someone tricked me out of it. With the rarity of the Life Potion, even as the eldest daughter, I can’t get a second one.”
Tricked?
Karl shook his head speechlessly.
Although the other party spoke vaguely, it was most likely an internal family issue, and such things were not uncommon.
No wonder Dana had been so proactive since taking office, it turned out to be for the sake of becoming a Knight.
“I’m not young anymore.”
Dana murmured:
“If I can’t become a Knight within a few years, I’ll have to marry some random man.”
“I’m not reconciled…”
“Every family has its own troubles.” Karl drank a glass with her and encouraged:
“I wish you success.”
“Then can you withdraw the complaint?”
“No.”
“…” Dana lowered her head and drank sullenly. When she was half-drunk, she threw a heavy bag in front of Karl.
“Thump!”
“Clatter…”
The sound of coins colliding came from the bag, attracting the attention of a few people drinking not far away, but they looked away after seeing Karl’s uniform.
“What?”
Karl said:
“Bribing me?”
“No.” Dana shook her head and mumbled:
“Give this to Ham’s family.”
“Ham?” Karl understood:
“Why don’t you go yourself?”
“I don’t dare.” Dana sighed:
“Ham has an elderly mother and a deaf-mute older sister who was driven back by her husband.”
“I don’t dare to see them, you go for me.”
“…” Karl was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded:
“Alright.”
“By the way, what’s the situation with the Vampire Corpse Case now?”
“The Church has taken over, with the Night Watchmen in charge.” Dana was clearly reluctant to mention it:
“I don’t know the details.”
✿✿✿
“Let’s go!” Karl got up:
“You’re drunk too.”

“Try it.”
Jenny was enthusiastic:
“I learned to make it myself.”
“Oh!”
Karl looked at the food on the dining table and nodded in appreciation:
“Not bad.”
Almond milk, white bread, roasted meat, and a salad of fresh vegetables. The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air, and the roasted meat and vegetables were beautifully colored.
Not to mention the taste, the presentation was very good.
“I learned this from the banquet.” Jenny blushed:
“How does it taste?”
“Hmm.” Karl nodded, cut a small piece of roasted meat, put it in his mouth, chewed it, and nodded with satisfaction:
“Very good.”
“Jenny, even if you don’t become a singer, you could switch to catering and I believe you’d be successful very quickly.”
“Really?” Jenny beamed:
“As long as it’s delicious, eat more.”
“I ate on the way.” Karl waved his hand:
“You eat, don’t mind me.”
He said, picking up the milk and walking towards his room.
“Stop looking.”
After Karl closed the door, Mrs. Mary shook her head at her daughter, who was reluctant to look away:
“He’s obviously not interested in you.”
“But…” Jenny pursed her lips:
“I still have a chance, don’t I?”
“You’ve been accepted into the singing troupe now, you should focus on your career, not on learning how to please men.” As someone who had been there, Mrs. Mary advised her daughter:
“Relying too much on men will only make you lose yourself.”
“I know.” Jenny looked impatient:
“I’ve been practicing singing diligently, and the senior members of the troupe have promised to let me perform on stage soon.”
“Really?” Mrs. Mary looked surprised:
“That’s great! If you can perform on stage, you’ll get paid, and life will be better.”
“Hmm.” Jenny rested her chin on her hand, her eyes thoughtful:
“Do you think I can invite Baron Karl to watch my performance? Will he agree?”
“…” Looking at her lovestruck daughter, Mrs. Mary was speechless and simply got up to clear the dishes.
In the room.
Karl tried to practice the Meditation Technique again.
Without the blessing of the Divine Domain’s power, his consciousness had just entered the Sea of Consciousness when it was tossed about by a wave.
The more unstable his spirit, the more distracting thoughts he had, and the bigger the waves became.
“No thought, no feeling, no desire, holding onto one’s true heart, letting distracting thoughts rise and fall, I remain unmoved. Easier said than done.”
Fortunately, with the experience in the Divine Domain, Karl had gradually grasped the pattern and wouldn’t be kicked out as soon as he entered.
A moment later.
“Phew…”
“Still not working!”
Karl, with a tired face, shook his head helplessly, but he was already used to failure. He calmed himself down, embraced the books, and entered the Divine Domain.
“Minor Force Field.”
He opened the book, stopped at the page about constructing Spell Models, and emotionlessly tried to practice.
Here, he had already mastered the Meditation Technique, his mental power was condensed, and theoretically, he could already construct Spell Models.
However, according to his teacher Adolf, the Minor Force Field was one of the more difficult Zero-Circle Spells.
Not only was the Spell Model complex.
It also required more mental power than ordinary Zero-Circle Spells.
And mental power was limited by his real body and wouldn’t increase just because he was in the Divine Domain.
Whether he could succeed or not was still uncertain.
“Arcane, force field…”
Karl in the Divine Domain was like practicing martial arts in a snail shell, using unbelievable control to manipulate his weak mental power to construct the Spell Model.
Mental power turned into lines, sketching in his Sea of Consciousness, from simple to complex.
Until…
It formed a whole.
