Chapter 26: Transaction
Not long after.
Karl once again arrived at the stall.
“A total of six portions of Soul Powder, twelve blackstones. Uncle, you can give me ten,” Aya said, rubbing her hands, her face flushed.
Ten blackstones was the largest single transaction she had made since setting up her stall.
After deducting the cost of acquiring Soul Powder from others, she could earn nearly three blackstones.
“Six portions?” Karl frowned slightly, squatting down to examine the powder. His tone was slightly displeased. “Only this much?”
For the sake of the deceased stall owner, Colon, he had given her enough time to collect Soul Powder, but she had only managed to gather six portions, far from his target.
“Uncle…” Aya’s face paled, then she gritted her teeth and said, “I’m not capable enough. But if you give me some more time, I can definitely collect more Soul Powder.”
“I swear on my life!”
Karl looked up.
She didn’t make excuses for her insufficient collection but directly admitted her lack of ability.
This was somewhat unexpected.
If it were someone else, they would most likely say they had tried their best, that others didn’t have any Soul Powder, and so on.
“One day.”
Standing up, Karl spoke slowly, “Given one day, how much Soul Powder can you collect?”
“One day?” Aya lowered her head and thought for a moment before replying, “Twenty portions!”
“At least twenty portions. If Uncle is willing to lend me some capital, I can collect thirty.”
“Alright.” Karl nodded. “Twenty portions then. I’ll come back tomorrow at this time. I hope you can collect them as you said.”
Saying that, he took out the ten blackstones he had exchanged and handed them over.
As for lending her capital…
He had no such intention. Being willing to continue doing business with her was already Karl’s greatest act of kindness at the moment.
“Thank you, Uncle.”
Taking the blackstones with excitement, Aya patted her flat chest vigorously. “By tomorrow, I will definitely have them all collected.”
Karl didn’t respond, turning to leave. No matter how much she boasted now, it was better to have enough by then.
He also needed to gather supplies.
Twenty portions of Soul Powder would require forty blackstones, which would be at least a cartload of bread and cured meat.
One trip definitely wouldn’t be enough.
Returning to Signo City, he hailed a carriage to the market, bought a cartload of bread and cured meat wholesale, and hurried back.
At the same time, he used the Divine Domain Fragment to transport them to Black City in batches and hide them.
“Hmm?”
Karl’s face stiffened.
After multiple transmigrations, he returned to Signo City and was shocked to discover that he could no longer enter the Divine Domain Fragment.
This made him panic.
The Divine Domain Fragment and the Other World were his biggest trump cards since transmigrating. Now they were unusable?
Fortunately, after waiting for a while, he felt a response from the depths of his Sea of Consciousness.
It wasn’t unusable.
It was just that multiple transmigrations in a short period were also a strain on the Divine Domain Fragment, and it needed time to rest.
At least for a day, it was unusable.
“Good, good.”
Karl breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s good that it’s still usable. If it were an emergency, I wouldn’t be able to escape, right?”
If it was unusable for a day, he would wait a day, but he would definitely miss the agreed-upon time with Aya.
The next day.
Karl appeared at the Laca Market.
“Uncle!”
The moment she saw him, Aya’s face lit up with joy, and she ‘whooshed’ up from the ground. “You’re here.”
She didn’t ask why Karl had stood her up yesterday, nor did she show any resentment on her face. She was as enthusiastic as ever.
“Sorry.”
Karl bowed his head slightly. “Something came up yesterday, and I couldn’t make it.”
“It’s fine.” Aya waved her hand magnanimously. “I believe in Uncle. If it weren’t for a real reason, you wouldn’t have broken your promise.”
“You came at the right time, Uncle. I visited a few more places yesterday and managed to acquire a total of thirty-two portions of Soul Powder.”
“Thirty-two portions?” Karl’s eyes flickered, his gaze lingering on the slender arms revealed as Aya waved her hands.
✿✿✿
Those slender arms were covered in scars.
“Aya.”
“Yes.”
“Do you want blackstones, or do you want food?” Karl asked slowly. “I have a batch of bread, cured meat, and some fresh milk in the city that I can sell to you at a discount.”
“But you’ll need to come with me.”
“Bread, cured meat, and fresh milk?” Aya subconsciously swallowed, hesitation in her eyes.
Compared to blackstones, these things were more cost-effective in the market.
And if Karl was really selling them at a discount, she could make a profit by reselling them.
“Uncle,” Aya’s eyes flickered, “wait a moment.”
Saying that, she packed the things on the stall into a bundle, slung it on her back, and turned to run towards the rear.
At a certain ruin.
“We want blackstones!”
A tall and strong figure spoke in a childish voice. “Sister, blackstones are readily available. He wouldn’t dare to cheat us in a market transaction. Who knows what we might encounter if we go out with him?”
“Little Nan has a point.” A hoarse voice followed. “It’s better to earn money steadily. There’s no shortage of robbery and murder in Black City.”
“But…” Aya struggled. “The Month of Winter’s Bite is coming soon. If we don’t have enough supplies, it will be difficult for us to survive. And I’ve been in the market for so long, the money I’ve earned isn’t even enough for the stall fee. This is an opportunity.”
“Do you know him?” An old man, swaying, walked out from the darkness and asked. “Do you know who he is?”
“Why can he get so much food? Why do you trust him? Have you thought about the consequences?”
The old man asked repeatedly, pressing her step by step.
“I don’t know him well.” Aya shook her head and said seriously, “But Uncle Colon once said that this man can always get good things that others can’t. His identity is very mysterious. This kind of person shouldn’t be short of money, and I don’t have anything worth him spending his time on.”
“What if…” The old man tapped his cane. “What if?”
“I want to take a gamble.” Aya’s eyes were firm. “If he really has a lot of food, I can get on his good side. There will be many benefits in the future.”
“If we’re deceived…”
“Then I’ve lost the bet. I’ll accept the consequences!”
“You…” The old man was exasperated. “We shouldn’t have let you buy Colon’s stall in the first place. With your skills, you could live a steady life mining.”
“Live?” Aya’s face was bitter. “Just barely.”
“Mining day and night, what’s the difference between that and being a beast? I don’t want to be a beast my whole life.”
“Sister.” The tall ‘young man’ stepped forward. “I’ll go with you.”

Karl didn’t wait long before Aya returned, accompanied by a tall man wrapped tightly in clothes.
“Uncle.”
Aya smiled. “If there’s a lot of food, I’m afraid I won’t be able to carry it all by myself, so I found a companion.”
“Hmm.”
Karl nodded slowly.
It was normal for her to be cautious, and he didn’t sense any threat from the tall man.
“Let’s go!”
Turning around, he gestured for them to follow.
The ‘snowflakes’ in the city were still falling, the black snow accumulating thicker and thicker on the ground. Scattered footprints could be seen on the road.
Not long after.
“It’s inside.”
Karl gestured towards the wooden house ahead.
Aya was about to step forward when the tall man beside her stretched out a hand to stop her. Then, the tall man cautiously approached the wooden door.
“Creak…”
The wooden door opened.
Mountains of bread, meat strips, and barrels of fresh milk came into view, freezing the tall man in place.
Aya’s body tensed. Although her face remained expressionless, the nails of her ten fingers dug into her flesh, drawing blood, but she was oblivious to the pain.
It was real!
He really had the means to get so much food!
Karl’s expression remained unchanged. Whether it was for the convenience of transactions or future development, he needed an agent here. Aya, who had no background, was just right.
