Wizard, I Have Another World – Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Chapter 35: Birthday

Morning.

Karl stood in front of the dressing mirror, carefully arranging his collar and cuffs.

Today, he wore a wide-brimmed high hat, a wool trench coat, a black vest, trousers, and leather boots.

His attire was somewhat similar to the Byzantine style from his past life memories, with the addition of some exquisite and gorgeous embroidery patterns.

This entire outfit cost one gold coin and three pounds.

For an ordinary family, just this set of clothes would probably require a year’s worth of savings.

The money spent was substantial, and the effect was not bad.

Karl had rough features and a burn scar on his face, giving the impression of being fierce and unapproachable.

After putting on this outfit, his temperament became much more refined, more like a successful person with a serious demeanor.

Pushing open the door, Jenny had already prepared breakfast.

As long as conditions allowed, Karl never treated himself poorly. After he had money, the first thing he did was tell Mary and her daughter to improve the quality of their meals.

This extra payment was no pressure for him, but it allowed him to maintain a good mood every day.

The table was filled with cereal and milk, bread and jam, as well as some dried fruits, ham, and cold cuts…

A hearty breakfast, befitting a respectable nobleman.

“Good morning, Baron Karl.”

Jenny put down the fruit plate in her hand and looked over curiously:

“Are you going to a banquet?”

It was not common for him to dress up so formally.

“Yes.”

Karl nodded:

“Today is Yvonne’s birthday.”

“Oh!” Jenny remembered the beautiful girl who was as delicate as a porcelain doll. She nodded:

“Will you have time tonight?”

“Why?” Karl stopped his knife and fork and looked up:

“Something up?”

“Yes.” Jenny’s face was flushed with shyness as she took out two tickets that still carried the warmth of her body:

“Today is my first official performance. I hope you can come. You can bring a friend.”

“Congratulations.” Karl smiled, took the tickets, and glanced at them casually. He was somewhat surprised:

“Vim Opera House?”

This was not an ordinary concert hall for small concerts. In Signo City, it could be ranked among the top three, and many grand ceremonies were held there.

“Yes.” Jenny clasped her hands tightly, her face flushed:

“The Barrow Singing Troupe was invited to perform at the Vim Opera House to prepare for the upcoming God’s Birthday.”

“The troupe leader said that if I perform well this time, I will be officially allowed to join the troupe and sing hymns on God’s Birthday.”

“That’s really great.” Karl nodded:

“I guessed that you would make it big someday, but I didn’t expect to see you at the opera house so soon.”

“I’ll definitely be there!”

Jenny beamed.

She had actually performed on stage before, but it was all in small venues, and she had not specifically invited Karl.

It was all for this surprise.

Watching Karl leave, Jenny clenched her small fist, her face filled with joy.

“This time, I will definitely impress you.”

“Five pence.”

It had rained last night.

Thanks to the less-than-perfect infrastructure of Signo City, there were inevitably puddles and potholes on the ground.

After paying the fare, Karl carefully avoided several puddles and walked towards the hotel ahead.

Before he even got close to the hotel, the noise reached his ears.

“Hello, you hang out with a bunch of messy friends all day long, and you call prostitutes to play with you when you have nothing to do.”

Kingsley yelled:

“Look at the clothes in the living room, they’re all sticky. I just feel disgusted!”

“You have the right to talk about me?” A familiar voice rang out:

“Which of my friends hasn’t slept with you? You slut, **, **, you’re a son of a bitch.”

“Who are you calling that?”

“Shut up!”

“Bang…”

“Crash…”

Roaring, cursing, and shouting were mixed together, and from time to time, there were screams of pain.

“Stop fighting, stop fighting.”

Yvonne, dressed in a princess dress, watched the scene with tears in her eyes, helplessly crying and pulling them apart:

“It’s my birthday today, please stop fighting.”

“Ah!”

✿✿✿

Someone suddenly pushed her, causing her to stumble backward and almost hit the wine cabinet.

“Careful.”

Karl appeared in time, reached out to stop Yvonne, and looked at the scene in surprise:

“What’s going on?”

It was supposed to be a happy day to celebrate a birthday, but now it had turned into a brawl, with a group of people fighting each other.

There was his uncle’s family, as well as other guests. The scene was chaotic, and even the hotel staff couldn’t pull them apart.

Karl knew that these relatives did not have a good relationship with each other, but he did not expect it to be so bad that they would fight each other mercilessly.

Even the women were fighting like madwomen.

“Sob…” Yvonne, panicked and helpless, burst into tears and buried her head in Karl’s arms:

“Cousin Karl, sob…”

“Forget it.”

Karl shook his head:

“Let’s stop them first.”

“You sit down and rest.”

After settling Yvonne down, Karl flashed into the crowd, grabbed one person, and threw him backward.

He was strong and powerful, and everyone he passed was thrown away. In a moment, the scene was quiet.

Everyone was panting, except for Karl, who stood in the middle with an unchanged expression, even straightening his tie.

“So…”

Scanning the crowd, he slowly said:

“What’s going on?”

“Divorce!”

One person suddenly shouted:

“I can’t live like this anymore, let’s get a divorce today!”

Karl recognized him, Kingsley’s husband, his cousin-in-law, a good-looking man.

Kingsley had married him because she was attracted to his looks, despite her family’s objections.

Unfortunately,

Their marriage was not as sweet as the stories in books, but full of trivial matters.

After two years, they lived their own lives, and their marriage existed in name only.

Every time they were together, they would quarrel, and this time seemed to be no exception.

“Divorce then!”

Kingsley, her clothes in disarray, shouted:

“I shouldn’t have married you!”

“You should have divorced a long time ago.” Giles, obese and with small eyes, did not try to dissuade them but snorted:

“My daughter has been married to you for so many years, she deserves some compensation.”

“Compensation?” Josie, Kingsley’s husband, sneered:

“Your family is really strange. But don’t worry, as long as we divorce, I’m willing to give up everything. I don’t want the house in the East City anymore.”

“That house was never worth much.” Kingsley said disdainfully:

“Don’t think I don’t know, you still have a sum of money in the bank, and part of it is mine.”

“Nonsense…”

“Then let’s settle it properly.”

Karl shook his head, ignoring their quarrel, and went to Yvonne to give her a gift.

“Happy birthday.”

“Cousin.”

Yvonne sniffed, her face red from crying, and nodded:

“Thank you.”

Karl turned sideways, looking at Yvonne’s messy hair, his gaze pausing on the familiar hairpin.

“My sister gave it to me for my birthday.”

Yvonne took off the hairpin, her voice choked with sobs:

“She said she spent a lot of money to buy it, I like it very much.”

“Is that so.”

Karl thought for a moment:

“As long as you like it.”

Looking back at Kingsley, who looked like a madwoman, he chuckled and shook his head subconsciously.

People,

are always complex.

“Cousin.”

He raised his hand:

“I happen to be planning to buy a house recently. Why don’t you sell me your house in the East City?”

“The price is negotiable.”
