Chapter 379: The Large Man
Laboratory.
Barrow, as one of the only two personnel currently in the lab, had access to enter and exit even when Karl was not present.
“Beep…”
The security door slid open to both sides.
“Gulp…”
Barrow’s throat moved, his palms sweating. Even though he knew there was no one in the lab right now, his pupils were still dilated, his heart racing, and a sense of fear permeated his heart, as if countless eyes were staring at him from all around.
Having been an honest child since he was young, he couldn’t help but feel frightened at the first time he was doing something that violated the rules and would definitely be severely punished.
The safe!
The No. 7 reagent!
Standing at the doorway, Barrow’s body trembled slightly, but he still didn’t dare take a step forward.
“Hiss…”
A cold voice sounded in his ear:
“What are you thinking about?”
“If you don’t go in and get the thing, the toxins will invade your heart, and you will die even if the best doctors are here.”
“You…what exactly are you?” Barrow stammered, “Are you a human or a ghost?”
Ever since Professor Jim bit him, this thing had appeared on his body. He couldn’t see it, but he could hear its voice.
That voice,
It was as if it was directly sounding in his mind, and it had been tormenting Barrow to the point of near death these past two days.
“Does it matter?”
The voice chuckled:
“Right now, the most important thing for you is to get the thing, and then exchange it for the antidote that will save your life.”
“Do it!”
“There’s no one near the lab now, it’s very safe. If you delay any longer, it might not be so certain.”
Barrow sighed helplessly, his heart ashen as he stepped into the lab and took out the No. 7 reagent from the cabinet.
“Is this it?”
“Yes!”
The voice was tinged with excitement:
“Go quickly!”
“Leave this place quickly.”
Of course he had to be quick.
There were surveillance cameras in the lab, and Barrow’s every move might be under someone’s observation.
“Okay.”
Putting the reagent in his inner pocket, Barrow turned and walked out, subconsciously quickening his pace.
The lab was on the fourth floor.
Just as he reached the elevator, the elevator doors opened, and two white men in neat suits happened to step out.
The men were extremely burly, over two meters tall, and their loose suits couldn’t hide their developed muscles.
If they were to participate in a bodybuilding competition, they would definitely achieve excellent results.
Just as Barrow lowered his head to enter the elevator, one of the white men reached out to stop him:
“Barrow Gardner?”
“Huh?”
Barrow was startled:
“That’s me.”
“Security Department.” The man flashed a badge, a gentle smile on his face:
“Please come with us for a while to assist with an investigation.”
?
Barrow’s body stiffened, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, freezing him solid in an instant.
He didn’t realize that the school’s security department didn’t have such large men, nor would they say anything about assisting with an investigation.
Only one thought filled his mind.
It’s over!
He had been discovered stealing something from the lab.
“Swish!”
Before he could react, a stream of black, viscous liquid shot out from Barrow’s shoulder, piercing directly into the man’s chest.
“Pfft!”
The liquid instantly solidified into a sharp cone, piercing through his heart, and the force of the impact sent the man flying.
With a sweep, he sent the other man flying as well.
“Go!”
The voice in his mind roared:
“Take the stairs!”
“Ah!”
Barrow was stunned, his mind not yet clear, instead looking at the scene before him in disbelief.
“He’s killing people!”
“He’s killing people…”
“Shut up!” The voice roared:
“He’s not dead, if you don’t leave, you’ll be the one who dies!”
“Cough cough!”
As he spoke, the man whose heart had been pierced stood up from the ground, patting his clothes and coughing lightly:
“Careless of me, I didn’t expect a monster to be parasitizing a normal person.”
“You…you’re not dead?”
Barrow was astonished, feeling that his experiences these past few days had completely shattered his understanding of the world.
“It’s nothing.”
◈◈◈
The man smiled faintly:
“You should be careful later, it might hurt a bit.”
As he spoke, he strode forward, his fist clenched and ready to strike.
“Boom!”
A terrifying blast of air rushed toward him, and Barrow felt as if he was being blown apart, even before the fist reached him.
It was just the wind from the punch!
“Damn it!”
The voice in his mind roared urgently. Immediately, Barrow felt his body suddenly twist, like a nimble snake dodging the man’s fist and rushing towards the lab. Then, he quickly swung his tentacle-like limbs, smashing into various machines.
Then.
“Beep…beep…”
A piercing electronic sound rang out, and various red lights flashed.
Oh no!
Barrow’s expression changed drastically, and he yelled urgently:
“It’s going to explode!”
Before his voice could fade away.
“Boom!”
A blinding light and intense heat erupted, Barrow’s body shuddered, and he fell backward in excruciating pain.
In his vision, he could only see two blurry figures clashing and fighting at incredible speeds, before he blacked out.
“Boom!”
A fire suddenly erupted on the fourth floor of the lab building, and the booming sound spread throughout the entire campus, causing Karl and Rui Li to rush downstairs.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know!”
“Call the police!”
“Call the fire department!”
“…”
Various chaotic voices rang out, and Karl pushed through the crowd, approaching the lab building that was ablaze.
“Professor Karl! Don’t go near there! Wait for the fire trucks to arrive!”
“It’s fine.”
Waving his hand at Rui Li, he raised his voice:
“I’ll take a look from a safe place.”
The explosions above didn’t stop, and the flames, as if they had touched something, continued to flare up.
If this place didn’t lack a chemistry lab and special materials, the radiation would probably have already spread.
“Thud!”
A charred figure landed heavily on the ground.
Huh?
Karl’s eyes flickered, and he slowly approached, shaking his head speechlessly at the figure on the ground.
“Barrow, how did you manage to get yourself into this state?”
Barrow lay on the ground, the skin on the surface of his body already carbonized from the high heat, and one of his eyes was blind.
In his buzzing ears, he vaguely heard a familiar voice, and he struggled to open his eyes, his throat moving.
He was going to die!
A realization dawned on him, but strangely, Barrow didn’t feel as frightened as he had imagined.
In fact,
He wasn’t even as nervous as he had been when he was stealing things in the lab.
Instead, a strange sense of desolation welled up, and he finally let out a helpless sigh and slowly closed his eyes.
Karl stroked his chin, his eyes strangely fixed on the position of the other’s chest.
There.
A strange liquid was seeping into Barrow’s body, gradually fusing with his flesh and blood.
At the same time.
Barrow’s carbonized skin, shattered internal organs, and various other organs were recovering at an astonishing speed.
In just a few breaths, he had recovered to about seventy or eighty percent.
‘Interesting!’
‘Mixing so many genes together, there’s no rejection. It must be the effect of supernatural power.’
‘Hmm…’
‘From this point of view, Professor Jim’s experiment was a success.’
“Professor Karl?”
At this moment, a steady voice sounded:
“Officer Chris from the police department, I need to take him to the hospital.”
“Oh!”
Karl turned around and said to the slightly disheveled man:
“I’m sorry to trouble you. Barrow is a good kid, you must save him.”
“Of course.”
The man nodded, and when his gaze fell on Barrow, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, and then he nodded again:
“He will be fine.”
