Chapter 41: Opponents
Three figures appeared amidst the ruins.
One of them had a sharp mouth and monkey cheeks, his eyes blinking incessantly. He leaped out from the shadows and looked ahead.
“Nick, are you sure they were here?”
“Of course.”
Nick, with his piercing blue eyes, replied in a muffled voice:
“I’ve been watching Aya and her group for a whole month. Besides, even if you don’t trust me, you should trust a rat’s sense of smell.”
“Ben!”
He turned to the last person:
“Could this be the person the Brotherhood is looking for?”
“Does it matter?” Ben sneered:
“What’s important is how a little girl with no foundation managed to build up a force in such a short time.”
“Aren’t you curious where she gets all that food from?”
“Good point.” Nick nodded:
“If we had her channels, even if we don’t join the Brotherhood, we wouldn’t lose anything.”
No!
By then, it wouldn’t be them desperately trying to join the Brotherhood, but the other party begging them to join.
Although they were initially commissioned by the Brotherhood to find the murderer of Red-Hair, it was now irrelevant compared to the situation they were investigating.
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
“First confirm if this is their trading spot. If it is, tell the leader to be ready.”
Ben stretched his limbs:
“I’ve had enough of that little brat.”
“So…” one of them said:
“You’re here for Aya?”
“Of course.”
Ben nodded instinctively, then abruptly turned around, looking in surprise at the direction of the voice:
“Who’s there?”
Karl walked out from the darkness, his eyes fixed on the three. His expression relaxed slightly:
“At least it’s not the worst outcome.”
It seemed that Aya hadn’t betrayed him. Even the people in Aya’s group hadn’t colluded with outsiders, which meant he hadn’t chosen the wrong person.
It was worth him guarding here for two days.
“Attack!”
Nick growled, lunging forward. With a wave of his hands, several hidden arrows shot out first.
The other two reacted slightly slower, but the survival environment of Black City made them make a decision in an instant.
They followed Nick, charging forward one after another.
Realizing they were being spied on, they immediately chose to attack, and they were going for the kill.
“Heh…”
Karl chuckled softly.
Zero-Circle Spell ━ Minor Force Field!
As his mental power increased, the power of his spells also increased. An invisible force field enveloped the surroundings.
In an instant.
The incoming arrows, as they approached within three feet of Karl, seemed to pierce into water. The strong resistance slowed their movement.
“Clang…”
With a gentle swing of his broadsword, the arrows were knocked away.
At the same time.
Karl snapped his left fingers.
Light Spell!
A blinding white light flashed.
The three charging men instinctively closed their eyes, their reactions faltering. Their movements were completely disrupted.
Damn it!
“Whoosh…”
Karl stomped on the ground, his body moving like a bird. The broadsword in his hand whipped up a gust of wind as he charged towards the three.
Eagle Strike!
Gale Swordsmanship!
He didn’t hold back, using his signature combat techniques right from the start.
Gale Slash!
Several afterimages appeared out of thin air, converging with the main body of the broadsword. In an instant, the three men in the field were completely enveloped.
The suppression of the Minor Force Field made their movements sluggish. They couldn’t organize a decent defense against the incoming attack.
In just a split second.
“Splat!”
“Splat, splat!”
Blood splattered.
“Ah!”
Nick screamed, his hand shaking violently. A chain with a sharp tip shot out from his sleeve.
“Clatter…”
The chain danced, actually causing Karl’s movements to pause slightly.
But that was all. With a flick of the sword, a head flew high into the air. The headless body spurted blood several feet high before collapsing to the ground.
Dead!
A moment later.
Covered in blood, Karl crouched down and asked:
✿✿✿
“So, the Brotherhood’s Red-Hair was killed, and they couldn’t find the murderer for a while, so they commissioned you, as locals, to help investigate and promised that if you could find the murderer and avenge Red-Hair, you could join the Brotherhood.”
“Then, during the investigation, you discovered Aya secretly trading with someone, so you turned to investigate the trade?”
“That’s right.” Ben, covered in blood, said angrily:
“You killed Red-Hair. The Brotherhood will never let you go, and the leader won’t let Aya and the others go either.”
“You…”
“You’re all going to die!”
Judging from his condition, he had suffered a lot of torture and knew in his heart that he couldn’t escape death. His current angry roar was just a plea for a quick death.
“Maybe.”
Karl nodded:
“Unfortunately, you won’t live to see it.”
As his voice fell, the broadsword swept across. Ben’s body stiffened, the life in his eyes fading. He fell to the ground, facing the sky.
After killing the three, Karl didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he took out a whistle from his body and blew it hard.
“Beep…”
The sharp whistle traveled into the distance.
Not long after.
Aya and Little Nan leaped out from a nearby crevice. They looked around and rushed towards Karl.
“Uncle.”
“Uncle…” Aya looked at the corpses on the ground, her eyes filled with surprise:
“What happened?”
“Someone was following and investigating us.” Karl said slowly:
“Their leader is called Iron Fist Abe. Have you heard of this name?”
“Iron Fist Abe?” Aya’s expression changed, her eyes turning gloomy:
“Of course!”
“He’s a local bully in the Laca Market. He controls over a dozen stalls and has been causing us trouble lately.”
Aya was not surprised that he had targeted her.
But the fact that he could find Karl meant that their trade was likely known, which concerned the life and death of their small team.
Karl looked at Aya and asked:
“What are you going to do?”
He didn’t mention that the cause of the matter was related to him killing Red-Hair. He wanted to see how Aya would handle this situation and if she could satisfy him.
“Uncle.”
After a moment of silence, Aya suddenly said:
“Little Nan is already a knight squire.”
“That’s right!” Little Nan patted his chest:
“Uncle Karl, I’m a knight squire now.”
Knight squire?
Karl’s eyes flickered.
This was beyond his expectations.
However, Little Nan’s physique was different from ordinary people. At only ten years old, he was already stronger than an adult. Coupled with Old Lev’s guidance, he had cultivated breathing techniques and martial skills. With sufficient nutrition during this time, it was only natural for him to become a knight squire.
“So…”
He looked at Aya:
“What are you trying to say?”
“I want to say…” Aya said, word by word:
“I’m no longer the little girl who could be bullied by anyone!”
Hearing this,
A smile appeared on Karl’s face.
Iron Fist Abe’s stronghold was not far from the Laca Market. He and his twenty or so men occupied a dilapidated manor.
Night.
Figures appeared nearby, surrounding the manor.
“Iron Fist Abe has two top fighters by his side. Including himself, that’s three knight squires. They are the strongest.”
“But Abe likes to drink. He drinks every day and gets dead drunk every time. No matter what, his fighting strength will be greatly reduced after drinking.”
Aya whispered:
“We’ll wait for the right time and charge in directly. First, we’ll take care of his henchmen, then we’ll surround and attack Iron Fist Abe.”
“Uncle.”
She looked at Karl:
“Please keep an eye on things from the side.”
“Okay.”
Karl nodded.
In these past few months, not only had he become stronger, but Aya had as well. Moreover, she had also invited helpers for this operation.
