Ch 149: Otherworld God of Death
Zheng Chen lay weakly on the ground, staring blankly at the battlefield. The excessive blood loss made his vision blur.
The Black Dragon, whose defenses had proven impenetrable to everyone else, was unexpectedly being driven back by the God of Faith. His heart gradually calmed; if the opponent possessed this level of power, he should be safe for now.
With this thought, his consciousness began to fade. He could no longer hold on. As long as the battle ended, he would be rescued, wouldn’t he?
But Zheng Chen’s eyes widened again. Intense pain brought him back to consciousness, but only for a moment before he could no longer make a sound, falling eternally asleep.
Ji Chuan watched the fleeing Black Dragon and quickly pursued. Fear flashed in the Black Dragon’s eyes; it seemed unable to comprehend how the opponent could possess such destructive power while maintaining such speed.
A blue Light Orb exploded in the air. To the Black Dragon’s surprise, the ground beneath it had transformed into a boundless ocean.
The world seemed to contain only itself and its pursuer. This was the Water Domain, part of the Elemental God Ability, and Ji Chuan intended to cool down this constantly fire-breathing Black Dragon.
The previously calm sea now churned with monstrous waves. Although the Black Dragon quickly changed direction and flew towards the sky, it found itself unable to escape the reach of the waves.
The towering waves continually crashed over its head. In terror, the Black Dragon was engulfed by the waves and plunged into the deep sea.
It struggled fiercely, desperately trying to flap its wings and break the surface, but the sea’s surface, like the waves before, remained just out of reach no matter how it moved.
It couldn’t understand why, as a creature at the apex of the food chain in the Dragon Clan, it would encounter such an opponent. This Different World was even more dangerous than its own; escaping to this world had been a mistake.
Its consciousness gradually dissipated, its massive body sinking into the deep sea as the surface returned to calm.
Ji Chuan had constantly sensed the killing intent emanating from the Black Dragon. Even Xu Xiao, with her Monochrome Crystal Core, could only barely injure it. Allowing it to escape would plunge the world into chaos.
Killing other Monochrome Crystal Core possessors would be troublesome for Ji Chuan; he hadn’t yet determined the usefulness of the Oracle Star Disk.
Right now, he wouldn’t allow anyone possessing a Monochrome Crystal Core to die.
The Domain in the sky gradually dissipated, and Ji Chuan stood suspended in mid-air.
The enormous corpse of the Black Dragon plummeted from the sky, kicking up a cloud of dust.
There was no ease in the ending, for Ji Chuan discovered an anomaly upon leaving the Domain.
Many nearby lifeforms were missing, though the Black Dragon hadn’t killed those powerful individuals.
Ji Chuan quickly looked towards the direction where Song Ci and the others were, only to find a figure standing before them.
This person hadn’t been detected by Ji Chuan; neither his Energy Perception nor his Spiritual Awareness Warning had sensed his presence. He was greedily observing Song Ci and the others.
Song Ci watched the Monster warily. As the powerful warriors on the battlefield began to disappear, Song Ci, with his keen perception, noticed something was wrong. The Black Dragon had been dragged into the Domain by Ji Chuan, so why were these powerful warriors dying?
He therefore heightened his vigilance and focused his perception on the surroundings.
A Black Shadow sauntered over. It would be difficult to notice him amidst the raging Black Flame on the battlefield without careful observation. Even after appearing within his sight, Song Ci still hadn’t sensed his presence.
“Luo Jiayou, run!”
Song Ci had already realized something was amiss; those strong individuals hadn’t even had the chance to make a sound before they died.
A black dome enveloped them. Luo Jiayou discovered that his Special Ability was ineffective; the black dome seemed to be isolating them, preventing their escape.
Song Ci no longer hesitated. As the Black Shadow approached, he drew four playing cards, intending to trap the Shadow. However, the cards couldn’t penetrate the black dome.
He could only use the four cards on themselves.
The Shadow Person reached out, but stopped upon contact with the square light barrier formed by the cards. He watched the people inside with amusement.
Song Ci hoped to hold out until Ji Chuan left the Domain. In his eyes, Ji Chuan was nearly omnipotent. Fortunately, he waited long enough; Ji Chuan had already noticed the situation here.
Ji Chuan flew over quickly. He didn’t know what this Shadow Person was, but Song Ci and the others were in danger, and they couldn’t die.
Ji Chuan was ready to attack, but the Shadow Person didn’t even turn his head. Such a large opening? Or was the opponent overly confident? A sense of unease began to grow in Ji Chuan’s heart.
Ji Chuan summoned the God of Death, but nothing happened. Not even the swift shadow of the strike appeared.
There was no time to hesitate. Blades of five elements rapidly flew towards the Shadow Person, but were all absorbed by a Gate that appeared out of thin air.
Ji Chuan was intimately familiar with that Gate—it was the Gates of Hell belonging to the God of Death.
A second face appeared behind the Shadow Person, who was now observing Ji Chuan with amusement.
“You stole my prey, and you borrowed my power?”
“This is another world. Here, he is the God of Death.”
The front face reminded.
Ji Chuan was somewhat shocked. This Two-Faced Shadow Person was the God of Death of this Different World?
“His energy is so mixed; he’s unworthy of being the God of Death. Let’s absorb these delicious lifeforms first, then him. He’s rather difficult to absorb.”
“Yes, not absorbing this person first would be a little troublesome.”
“There seems to be a lot of deliciousness in this world… I never thought chasing that stupid dragon would lead us to such a good place.”
The Shadow Person chatted amongst themselves, seemingly considering Ji Chuan not a threat, but merely a lamb to be slaughtered.
Ji Chuan tried to use other Special Abilities, but none harmed the Shadow Person in the slightest. Ji Chuan began to panic; he was certain that in his current state, he couldn’t defeat this Shadow Person.
He could only hope for Zhou Mi’s Sleep Retrospection; he had to find the key to breaking the deadlock, but how could he put Zhou Mi to sleep right now?
He launched Area Sleep at Zhou Mi and the others, but it was completely blocked by the black dome. He had originally planned to activate it the instant the card barrier disappeared, but this plan was infeasible.
In desperation, Ji Chuan quickly approached. If Zhou Mi died, he would lose the possibility of future trial and error.
He used the Soul Control Fighting Technique from Lan Xing in close combat against the Shadow Person. This was his first time using it after absorbing it, as Ji Chuan rarely engaged in close-quarters combat.
But now, he had to explore more possibilities of inflicting damage on the Shadow Person.
His fist, imbued with destructive soul power, hit the Shadow Person as if it were air, yielding no sensation.
The face on the Shadow Person’s back merely wore a mocking smile. Ji Chuan felt the energy in his arm, which had struck the Shadow Person, rapidly disappearing.
The immense suction prevented him from withdrawing it. Without hesitation, Ji Chuan severed that arm, which quickly regenerated.
“So, absorbing him is a little troublesome.”
The Shadow Person still greedily stared at Song Ci and the others.
The playing cards were creased, and the card barrier was dimming. Song Ci had sensed the shift in the situation. He drew four more cards, preparing for a desperate gamble.
“Yunxi, use Ability Enhancement on Xia Yida!”
Ji Chuan suddenly remembered Qin Fangruo’s words. Successfully dealing with the Black Dragon hadn’t given Xia Yida a chance to demonstrate herself, but Qin Fangruo had clearly said that Xia Yida played a crucial role.
Now, he could only have Xia Yida try again.
