Ch 159: Qijiao Village’s Nightmare
Lin Lulu carefully walked through the jungle, memorizing her path. Her own world rarely had such pristine forests, so she didn’t dare venture too deep.
Occasionally, she encountered fruit trees laden with fruit. Carefully, she used a Light Arrow to shoot down branches with fruit, planning to take them back to the village. She wasn’t sure if these fruits were poisonous.
She had come out to find food, but the situation before her was difficult. She didn’t dare eat plant-based foods or mushrooms directly; she needed to ask the Sheep-Headed People about these unfamiliar varieties. If confirmed edible, they might become her long-term food source.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d need to stay in this world. Her current plan was to find food to fill her hunger, help the Sheep Village improve its defenses, and avoid becoming a target for other races.
“What is this…?”
From a distance, Lin Lulu sensed something moving on the ground. Approaching, she discovered some pale blue, transparent blobs—creatures she’d never seen before.
Although these blobs looked cute, Lin Lulu didn’t dare approach rashly. Everything in this Different World was unfamiliar to her. She avoided the blobs and walked toward the faint sound of water.
She couldn’t survive on only fruits and mushrooms for long. She believed there would be fish in the water; grilled fish would be a good source of protein.
A river appeared in her view. The current wasn’t swift. The rivers in this Different World seemed unpolluted; the water was crystal clear. The nearby Sheep-People Tribe didn’t eat fish, so the fish population thrived.
Lin Lulu found these plump fish; they looked almost identical to the fish in her own world. These should be safe to eat.
She sharpened a stick, removed her shoes and socks, and carefully entered the river. “Hiss—” The water was a little cold. Lin Lulu frowned, but didn’t stop entering the water.
There were too many fish in the river; Lin Lulu didn’t think she needed to waste her Special Ability hunting them. She thought a self-made fish spear would suffice.
After several failed attempts, Lin Lulu found her rhythm and finally speared her first fish. Excited, she brought the fish ashore. She planned to spear one more before returning to Sheep Village; she currently had no way to make a fire.
A rustling sound came from the bushes behind her. Lin Lulu cautiously turned around and saw a pair of long, white ears poking out. “Is that a rabbit?” Lin Lulu was somewhat excited; this rabbit looked large.
Roasted wild rabbit seemed even more delicious, and catching one would provide enough food for tomorrow.
She activated her Special Ability, and a Light Arrow appeared before her.
“Wait… wait a minute!”
As if sensing danger, the creature in the bushes jumped out. Lin Lulu was surprised; it wasn’t a rabbit, but a Rabbitfolk.
“You are the Hero summoned by the Sheep-People Tribe, right? Don’t attack me; I mean no harm!”
He gestured frantically, fearing an attack. The Light Arrow looked dangerous.
“Who are you?”
“I am a Rabbitfolk Sentry, patrolling the area.”
“How did you know I was summoned by the Sheep-People Tribe?”
“Few Humans approach this area. Human settlements are far from Beastmen territories. Your attire isn’t from this world. Only the Sheep-People Tribe would summon a Different World Hero.”
The Rabbitfolk watched Lin Lulu warily, backing away. Heroes are generally dangerous.
“Did those Heroes eventually return? Is there a way to leave this world?”
“I advise you to leave quickly; Humans can’t survive here!”
Seemingly certain Lin Lulu didn’t have strong killing intent, the Rabbitfolk seized the opportunity to jump into the bushes; his figure quickly disappeared.
This wasn’t the first Hero summoned by the Sheep-People Tribe he’d seen. The Sheep-People Tribe weren’t as innocent as they appeared; they had no way to send Heroes back to their original worlds.
The summoned Heroes seemed to disappear after a period of time, never reappearing in the area.
Lin Lulu wondered why they couldn’t survive—was it because the Beast races were too dangerous?
But if she left, how would she return to her original world? The Sheep-People Tribe was her only support.
By helping them drive away other races, they should fulfill their promise, right? If they had the ability to summon her, shouldn’t they also have the ability to send her back?
Lin Lulu didn’t waste her concentrated Light Arrow, using it to spear fish in the river. After catching six fish, she went ashore; her food supply for the next two days was secured.
She carefully retraced her steps and saw the Sheep People standing in a line at the village entrance. Upon seeing her, the Chieftain waved enthusiastically. “Hero, you’re back!”
Lin Lulu found the Sheep People quite welcoming. It was safer to be with herbivores than carnivores.
“Please help me identify if these fruits and mushrooms are edible.”
The Chieftain patiently selected the edible food. “Hero, these are edible.”
“Can you make a fire?”
“Yes, Hero.”
Lin Lulu breathed a sigh of relief; her food situation was resolved.
She grilled the fish over the fire. She had a strange feeling, as if the Sheep People were constantly watching her, but she didn’t understand sheep vision and couldn’t confirm her judgment.
The following time was peaceful. Daytime in this Different World seemed to pass quickly. She had no way of telling the time; she saw the shadow of stars before the sky was completely dark, something impossible to see in the City.
After eating, Lin Lulu was led by the Sheep People into a Room. Compared to the other houses in the village, this room seemed much more luxurious.
The room contained a large, circular stone bed, thoughtfully covered with soft straw.
“Hero, this is the room prepared for you.”
Lin Lulu sighed; this was the best room the Sheep-People Tribe could offer.
With no entertainment, Lin Lulu felt sleepy. She had a tiring day and unknowingly fell asleep. If there was danger, the Sheep People should wake her up…
“Lin Lulu seems to have disappeared.”
“So what if she disappeared? She wasn’t useful at the Stronghold anyway.”
Lin Lulu felt her consciousness return to the Stronghold. She was watching the Stronghold members talking about her. Why did they say that? Was her impression that bad?
“She’s got no figure, no looks, a bad personality, and weak strength. Does the Stronghold need her?”
Su Shen, as the Chief Steward of the Stronghold, had this to say about her? Lin Lulu’s chest heaved; a strong sense of grievance rose within her.
“Yunxi, you two were always closest. Won’t you go look for her?”
“Closest? I dislike her. She’s always clinging to me, it’s annoying… Ji Chuan, you’re back.”
“Yes, come with me to Shannan City tomorrow. We have a Task.”
“By the way, Leader, Lin Lulu is missing.”
“Missing is missing. She wasn’t of any use anyway.”
Hearing Gu Yunxi and Ji Chuan’s conversation, Lin Lulu felt dizzy. She couldn’t distinguish between a dream and another world’s reality; it was as if the conversations were unfolding before her eyes.
Lin Lulu cried and woke up, “Ah!”
She was met with a Sheep-Headed person staring at her strangely; Lin Lulu was afraid.
“Hero, you’ve been crying. I came to see if something was wrong.”
The Sheep-Headed person’s tone was respectful. Lin Lulu shook her head.
“I probably had a nightmare. Please leave.”
After getting up, the Sheep Person turned back at the door and said something chilling to Lin Lulu. “Dreams in Qijiao Village are very accurate; maybe what you dreamed will happen in reality.”
The room door closed. Lin Lulu sat on the bed, lost in thought, unable to calm down for a long time.
