Ch 178: A Strange City
Olovia’s sky was filled with dark clouds. Arthur, inspecting the city’s construction, raised his head, his brow furrowed. Thanks to Lord God of Faith, he no longer had to worry about wars.
He only needed to build the Royal City well. He had only dreamed of such a wonderful task. Making his Royal City beautiful and prosperous was the wish of every Monarch.
Before the appearance of Lord God of Faith, this Royal City was only increasingly dilapidated and impoverished. He thanked the God for everything He had done for this Kingdom. Inspecting the city’s construction had become something Arthur was happy to do.
But it seemed a heavy rain was about to come, and the construction progress had to be temporarily suspended.
“Have the Artisans protect the unfinished projects. This rain will probably be very heavy, especially the statue built for Lord God of Faith; it cannot be wet by the rain!”
“Yes, sir!”
Soldiers quickly went deep into the Royal City, reminding the Artisans who were working. However, when passing some remote alleys, they collapsed.
Darkness enveloped Olovia. Screams echoed from the corners of the Royal City, but they were not noticeable in the huge Capital City.
Ji Chuan frowned. He discovered that the lifeforms in the Royal City were rapidly disappearing. These were the people who provided him with Faith Power. What had happened?
He came to the sky above the Royal City. The disappearance of lifeforms was without warning, yet he felt no anomaly. He quickly arrived at the nearest location where lifeforms had disappeared, but his eyes widened.
A Black Shadow was removing its claws from a corpse. This attack method felt familiar to Ji Chuan.
Undetectable, absorbing the life of its target, it reminded Ji Chuan of the Two-Faced Shadow Person. What was this thing?
Ji Chuan tried to attack the Shadow, but his Elemental Moves had no effect on it. It ignored Ji Chuan and moved towards the next person.
“Lord God of Faith, save me!”
The targeted Citizen quickly retreated but fell to the ground in excessive fear, looking at Ji Chuan for help.
He used Wu on the Shadow. However, after being hit, the Shadow dissipated like a rapidly spreading gas. Even a little residue allowed it to recover completely.
“Life Absorption Prohibition.”
Seeing the Shadow extending its claws towards the Citizen, Ji Chuan could only try to activate the Combat Rule to stop the killing.
“Success!”
The Shadow’s claws passed through the man’s body, but the man only looked at the Shadow in terror, feeling no discomfort.
The disappearance of life in the City stopped.
Ji Chuan found that he had finally found a way to at least stop the Shadow’s attack. It seemed that the Monochrome Crystal Core’s ability was still very powerful.
But how to deal with these Shadows? Where were their summoner or their main body? Ji Chuan still judged them to be Spirit Bodies.
The Combat Rule wouldn’t last forever. If he didn’t find a way to solve them, this city, which had just begun to recover, would face destruction.
Newly absorbed abilities… He had already tried two Monochrome Crystal Cores. Yu Yin’s Soul Reaper hadn’t been used yet. Besides Instant Death, Ji Chuan remembered that Yu Yin could take the Human Soul of the opponent and absorb it into her own power.
Should he try to use this ability on the Spirit Bodies?
There was no time to hesitate. Ji Chuan quickly rushed to the Shadow and used Soul Absorption. The Shadow, like a wisp of fog, was quickly absorbed into Ji Chuan’s body. He felt no discomfort.
This method actually worked!
He quickly moved to other parts of the City, absorbing all the Shadows in front of the Citizens.
The dark clouds gradually dissipated. The expected heavy rain did not fall. Ji Chuan once again protected the City. A continuous stream of Faith Power from the survivors flowed into Ji Chuan’s body.
This feeling excited Ji Chuan. It seemed that he would fall asleep again, and with the addition of such a large amount of Faith Power, he should see the Vortex Gate, right?
Ji Chuan quickly moved to the Werewolf Clan’s Altar to prepare to sleep. Since the Werewolf Clan and the Tiger Race had united, this area was relatively safe for now.
When Ji Chuan closed his eyes, he once again came to that vast white space. Without hesitation, he moved at full speed in this space, searching for the Vortex Gate.
A Gate in the distance seemed to emanate Black Qi, very obvious in this white space. Ji Chuan ran towards the Gate, hoping that behind it was a key turning point that could change history.
He stepped into the Vortex Gate emitting Black Qi.
When Ji Chuan opened his eyes, he was in a City. “Where is this…?” Ji Chuan looked around blankly. He did not recognize this place.
The dark clouds in the sky were oppressive, as if a heavy rain was about to fall soon.
This time, he seemed to be an ordinary person again. He didn’t feel any Divine Power in himself, nor did he feel those familiar Special Abilities.
“Hey! You’re just walking on the street, it’s dangerous!”
A voice came from behind. Ji Chuan turned around, and a Woman was reminding him from the doorway of a building not far away.
“Come here, I’ll open the door for you!”
Ji Chuan was a little confused about the situation, but a Zombie had already walked out from around the corner. Upon seeing Ji Chuan, it noticeably quickened its pace.
Ji Chuan tried to control it to leave, but he found he couldn’t! “How could this be? Even this ability is ineffective…”
He really was just an ordinary person?! Then, by entering this Gate, what result could he change?
“Hurry!”
The Woman’s expression was flustered. What was wrong with this young man? Wasn’t he afraid of death? The Zombie was so close, yet he wasn’t running?
Hearing the Woman’s reminder, Ji Chuan realized that the Zombie was very close to him. He could even smell the stench from the Zombie.
If he didn’t escape, he would probably die without discovering anything.
Ji Chuan quickly ran towards the Woman. The Woman opened the door for him and quickly closed it.
The Zombie slammed hard against the iron door and kept hitting it hard with its claws, emitting a terrifying low growl.
Ji Chuan gasped for breath, feeling the same thrill as when he was thrown out of the Villa.
“What were you doing? You almost died!”
The Woman was a little angry. In her eyes, Ji Chuan’s actions were tantamount to suicide.
“Thank you…”
Ji Chuan woke up as if from a dream. At present, he didn’t even have a decent Special Ability. This was the situation of most people in the Apocalypse.
The Woman walked in front, opening the door to a room on the first floor. In the living room, a Child looked at Ji Chuan cautiously.
“My child and I have been living here since the Apocalypse. Fortunately, there are many Unfinished Buildings around here with low occupancy rates, so there aren’t many Zombies. Closing the doors and windows allows us to barely survive.”
Ji Chuan had a strange feeling; he felt as if he had seen this mother and daughter somewhere before, but after trying to recall, he had no relevant memories.
“What’s your name? Why are you spacing out?”
“Ji Chuan. I was… thinking about something, I didn’t pay attention.”
“In this situation, every second you hesitate could mean death. Be more focused when you go out to find supplies. Are you thirsty? I’ll get you a glass of Water.”
Ji Chuan shook his head. He didn’t expect the other party to be so kind.
“This area is too remote, so everyone usually buys a lot of supplies at once. Supplies are plentiful, and if you don’t go out, you won’t be killed by Zombies. Therefore, there are fewer Zombies here. If I didn’t save you, there would be one more Zombie in this area. I did it for myself too, after all, I live on the first floor, so you don’t have to feel any psychological burden.”
The kindness from a stranger moved Ji Chuan. At this moment, he was just a Human.
