Ch 206: The Dangerous Elf Forest

Lin Lulu thought that if this was Ji Chuan’s test, it shouldn’t be too difficult; just a larger number of ordinary zombies.

Perhaps the difficulty of this task lies in finding something in the Elf Forest. The new clues should be very important to me; finding them might even allow me to return to my original world.

“Boss, you were amazing just now! I didn’t expect you could remotely command Light Arrows to attack. Even among Advanced Level Adventurers, that’s impressive.” Kaluo expressed his admiration. In the current age of rampant Undead, long-range attacks are the most sought-after Adventurer skill.

Lin Lulu smiled sheepishly. She hadn’t expected that she, as a rather ordinary Ability User, would be so powerful in this world. Where had all the powerful people gone? Had they disappeared with Ji Chuan?

“Fuluoya, why did the Elves move to Olovia? Didn’t you all used to live in the Elf Forest?”

Lin Lulu saw that Fuluoya hadn’t spoken the whole way, so she habitually brought up a topic to avoid awkwardness between strangers. She was also curious about the answer.

“The Elf Race guarded numerous treasures, but after the Gods disappeared, the Elf Race lacked strong protection. Even the Dragon Clan, who always protected the Elves, left us. The Elf Race, possessing these treasures, became a target for other races. To defend against foreign enemies, we sacrificed many of our people.”

“The Chieftain at the time decided to lead the people to migrate to Olovia, the place with the largest Divine Statue of the God of Faith. The people who had once received the protection of the God of Faith reached a consensus—we could coexist peacefully in Olovia.”

“Yes, that’s roughly what the legends passed down among my people say. Now, the races living in Olovia have all received the God of Faith’s protection.” Kaluo stroked his chin, recalling what he’d heard as a child.

Ji Chuan really does gather a large number of followers wherever he goes, Lin Lulu thought to herself. But what exactly happened that made all the Gods disappear…? Could the Gods be Special Grade Ability Users?

Occasionally, they encountered some ordinary Magical Beasts along the way. The Magical Beasts in this world were like ferocious animals, posing no threat to the group’s strength.

Diqi dissected the corpses of the dead Magical Beasts, keeping the most valuable parts in the carriage.

According to Kaluo, the value of those Magical Beast materials was close to 3 Gold Coins, which Lin Lulu found worthwhile. It meant that the cost of hiring Diqi was almost recouped. Driving a carriage is actually very tiring, and Diqi had been responsible for it all along.

After two days of travel, Lin Lulu finally saw an incredibly large tree, though its leaves were somewhat sparse and it wasn’t in good condition.

“Hero, that is the Elf Forest. The largest tree there is the Tree of Life, once the sacred tree of our clan.”

Fuluoya was excited. The last time she had seen the Tree of Life was a long time ago. The lifespan of the Elves is long, and memories from too long ago begin to fade.

Lin Lulu was excited; they were finally reaching their destination. She seemed to see the dawn of returning to the Stronghold.

“Diqi, faster! I want to get out and stretch my legs.”

Following the order, Diqi urged the horses on with the reins. He also wanted to complete the task and return to Olovia to report; the reward for this job was generous. With the Gold Coins, he could get a bigger house for his wife and child.

“Giddy up!”

The carriage sped forward, but Diqi seemed to let out a muffled groan.

“Diqi?”

Lin Lulu sensed something was wrong. She looked out the window and saw that the carriage was veering off course. She opened the front door and found Diqi, with blood flowing from his mouth, an arrow lodged in his chest.

With the jolting of the carriage, Diqi’s corpse fell out.

“Attack!”

Lin Lulu was instantly alert. Kaluo rushed out and pulled hard on the reins. Going any further would have sent them crashing into the woods.

“Watch out!”

Hearing the warning, Kaluo quickly raised his shield, deflecting another arrow with a “clang.”

The carriage finally stopped. The group quickly dismounted and cautiously surveyed their surroundings; they still hadn’t figured out who had attacked them.

Sounds began to emanate from the surrounding bushes, but this time, it wasn’t arrows, but leaf blades like flying knives.

An Elf Race member attacked them. His skin was decaying, his wings were tattered, and his eyes, like those of a dead fish, stared at them.

“Undead!”

More and more dead Elves appeared. Lin Lulu realized the trouble they were in. The Elf Race is a powerful one, skilled in both archery and magic.

Because of the cover of the forest, Kaluo’s defense became strained. He tried his best to stay in front of Lin Lulu, protecting his employer with all his might.

“Hiss!”

A large number of flying leaf blades slashed Kaluo’s arm. Fuluoya quickly cast healing magic on him.

Lin Lulu directed the Light Arrows to dart quickly through the forest, but she hadn’t expected to find so many corpses of Elves in this forest. They had all become Zombies, only guarding their territory and attacking anyone who entered.

Kairui didn’t seem nervous, only using his skills symbolically.

In addition to the Elf Race Zombies, the continuous sounds attracted other Zombies. Sweat began to bead on Lin Lulu’s forehead.

Long-range attacks were Kaluo’s nemesis, yet he dared not leave Lin Lulu’s side. A bodyguard’s duty is to protect their employer’s safety, even if they are already badly injured.

Lin Lulu directed the group to move to a more open area. The dense forest allowed the Undead to hide, making Zombies with long-range attack capabilities very difficult to deal with.

In a more open area, at least they could clearly target their enemies. They just needed to eliminate them like the previous horde of corpses.

“Hero, no need for so much trouble.”

Kairui’s tone was somewhat sinister. He raised his hand and fired a Dark Orb at Lin Lulu.

“Hero, watch out!”

Kairui was behind Lin Lulu, and Kaluo was in front of her. When he heard Fuluoya’s warning, Kaluo was too late to block the attack.

But it was Fuluoya who fell, using her body to shield Lin Lulu.

From the beginning, she had been wary of Kairui. Mages carrying harps usually used light or support magic. When he used a Dark Power Orb to attack the Undead, Fuluoya sensed something was wrong.

Elves are very sensitive to Dark Power. Kairui seemed to have the aura of another race.

But now, she couldn’t protect the Hero. Seeing Lin Lulu’s worried gaze, before falling, Fuluoya pointed towards the Tree of Life, hoping that the Elf legends would protect the Hero.

“Fuluoya! Why did you do that?!”

Lin Lulu was furious.

“That’s right, Hero. Let’s generate more negative emotions. You’re becoming more delicious.”

A thick black Qi emanated from Kairui, and the surrounding environment seemed to become pitch-black.

The harp on his back transformed into a pair of wings.

In the black Qi, Kairui’s form looked more like a Demon. He greedily stared at Lin Lulu.

“The God of Faith’s debt…on you. That’s quite good, too.”
