Ch 282: Spreading
“Whew, that was hard to kill. Wanwan, thank you for your help.”
Liu Hao took a deep breath to rest in the car for a while, his eyes full of affection as he looked at Su Wanwan.
“Hao Ge, you didn’t say anything beforehand, you scared me!”
“I just decided at the last minute. What could we do if he went to Ziyu Bay? I decided to act only after seeing you agree.”
“If it weren’t for Hao Ge’s tacit understanding with you… Let’s go to my place. My parents are waiting for me.”
Su Wanwan put her arm around Liu Hao, leaving a light kiss on his face.
“It’s the apocalypse. I saw so many people dead on the street. I guess nobody would care if I killed him. It was pretty exciting…”
Liu Hao savored the memory, then looked to the back of the car, making sure no zombies were approaching before opening the door. He went to the front, dragged the man’s corpse out, and threw it on the roadside.
Su Wanwan went to the passenger seat, searching the car for anything valuable. Besides some miscellaneous items, the most valuable thing was the man’s mobile phone.
Liu Hao drove towards Su Wanwan’s home, leaving the Pedestrian Street; the road conditions improved considerably.
The car owner’s phone rang; the contact name was “Xiao Yun”.
Su Wanwan waited a moment before answering the call.
“Hello?”
“Who are you? Where is my husband?!”
“He’s probably dead. I found this phone next to a man’s corpse on the street.”
Su Wanwan adjusted her makeup in the mirror on the passenger-side sun visor, as if talking about something very casual.
“What?!… How could this be… How could this be…”
Zhang Yun wept uncontrollably, looking at Xiao Xuan beside her, unsure how to tell her.
“Mm, I understand, don’t call again.”
Su Wanwan hung up the phone and then fiddled with the results of today’s shopping in the car. The new bag matched her outfit perfectly; she was in a great mood.
Didn’t answer the phone, the silly boy, couldn’t be dead, right?
Su Wanwan was a little worried, but thought she would contact him tomorrow. It was normal not to contact him given today’s situation. It was perfect since she was going to spend a sweet night with Liu Hao.
“Why did zombies suddenly appear…? Wanwan, do you have enough food at home?”
“There should be some. I don’t eat at home often. If not, the authorities should provide assistance eventually; the community will send food.”
Su Wanwan wasn’t concerned about daily necessities; she was thinking about what punishment Ji Chuan should receive for not answering her calls.
In her eyes, this was just a more serious epidemic.
…
“Open the door! Let us leave!”
Many guests stood in front of the hotel gate with their luggage, banging on the door. Pei Wendong frowned, reminding them that it was dangerous outside, but they didn’t care.
They thought zombies only existed in Jianghua City, and that if they reached the airport in time, they could escape hell.
Seeing their urgent expressions, Pei Wendong knew he couldn’t stop them, so he opened the door. They rushed out, taking advantage of the fact that there weren’t many zombies nearby.
Many others didn’t know what had happened; everything happened so suddenly. Those on vacation didn’t want to browse the news section of their phones.
“Let’s go downstairs for dinner after resting. I didn’t expect the food at this hotel to be so delicious. This trip to Jianghua City has been pretty good, except for that rude madman earlier, acting like a lunatic.”
“Mm, okay…”
The two of them took the elevator downstairs together.
“Why is your face so red?”
“I don’t know, I just feel a little hot. Did I catch a cold and have a fever?”
He wondered if it was his imagination, but he felt a little uncomfortable after being scratched on the arm by the madman he met on the street.
Could such a small wound cause tetanus?
The man considered whether he should go to the hospital after dinner to get an anti-inflammatory injection. Or maybe he was just too tired; he should lie down and rest, and have a good sleep.
Many people were sitting in Aolijiaer’s restaurant at dinner time; some looked serious, having seen the news and cancelled their subsequent trips, unwilling to risk going out.
Others were chatting and laughing normally, enjoying their holiday.
“What’s wrong? Why are you standing here dumbfounded? Don’t you like the food?”
The woman saw the man standing still, his gaze vacant, his expression strange.
He really needed a good rest this afternoon. Maybe his schedule was too tight; men seemed to tire easily from shopping and sightseeing.
Under her puzzled gaze, the man grabbed her hand and bit down hard.
“Ah! What are you doing!”
The woman winced in pain and tried to pull away, but found that he was very strong and had sunk his teeth in.
Pain instantly assaulted her brain. The restaurant fell silent amidst her screams, and people all turned to look.
Those who had seen the news immediately got up and ran without saying a word. Those who didn’t know what was happening thought it was a lovers’ quarrel; they thought it was embarrassing to shout so loudly.
Only when the woman’s arm started bleeding, and her screams became even more shrill, did people realize something was wrong.
“It’s a zombie!”
The woman’s eyes were already rolling back, she finally pulled away her mangled hand, and chased after the others.
The restaurant became a hunting ground, and people rushed towards the exit in a chaotic mess.
Zhu Zhu immediately ran towards the restaurant’s warehouse. The flow of people in front was very crowded, and the zombies were also attracted by the crowd, making her speed and position extremely dangerous.
If she couldn’t get on the elevator, she would have to run down more than ten floors; she definitely couldn’t outrun the zombies, and there wasn’t much food in the hotel rooms.
By occupying the restaurant’s warehouse, she could hold out for a long time.
People in the back of the crowd were bitten one after another by zombies. The zombies spread rapidly like a contagious disease; screams rang out one after another, but the people on other floors didn’t know anything; the hotel’s soundproofing was excellent.
Ji Chuan walked out of the bathroom, wiping his body. He hadn’t expected that showering felt so good. Su Wanwan hadn’t called again; she must have encountered trouble while shopping.
Ji Chuan snorted softly and put on his clothes.
“Bang bang bang—Chuan Ge! Zombies downstairs, be careful!”
Tang Yue’s voice came from outside the door; the monitoring room had discovered the anomaly and immediately notified her.
Ji Chuan quickly opened the door and picked up the cleaver.
“There are many zombies in the restaurant. Others ran to their rooms; it’s unclear how many people were injured!”
Ji Chuan nodded. He hadn’t expected the zombies to spread here so quickly. He was ready to clean them up now; he had just finished showering, and it seemed he would have to shower again soon.
Ordinary zombies posed no threat to him; they moved even more slowly during the daytime.
“Chuan Ge, come with me to choose a weapon.”
Tang Yue led the way; at the very end of this floor was a metal-doored warehouse. Tang Yue pressed her fingerprint, the gate opened, and various bladed weapons were displayed inside.
Ji Chuan raised an eyebrow. To obtain so many large bladed weapons must have taken effort; Tang Yue must have used a lot of financial power.
“I really couldn’t get firearms, but I’ve collected quite a few bladed weapons. I was waiting for a situation like this.”
Ji Chuan nodded. Tang Yue had indeed considered a lot; she had made very thorough preparations for this rebirth.
He threw the cleaver on the ground. This weapon was too short; it hampered his performance.
He needed to cut off the zombies’ heads. A longer, sharper weapon would increase his combat effectiveness several times over.
Ji Chuan looked around and chose a long cleaver.
“Lock the stairwell on this floor. Wait for my message in your room, and remind A Huai not to come out.”
Tang Yue nodded. “Be careful.”
Ji Chuan went down floor by floor, patrolling. He locked the stairwell door on each floor, so that the zombies wouldn’t spread.
No one had escaped to the upper floors yet, but screams could already be heard in the corridors. Ji Chuan continued to move downwards.
